Helena (No, Not The My Chemical Romance Song), Or My First Winter Storm Experience

I survived my first Winter Storm! What is up, Helena?

Being a Southerner, I really did not know what to expect. Saturday morning, I went to the gym, which was packed, early. On my way home, I stopped by Dunkin Donuts, which was also packed and this conversation occurred:

Man In A Patriots Hoodie: Oh. So I was talking to my friend in New Bedford. They are in a full out blizzard! Can you believe it? It's heading this way in one hour.

Me:

Look friends, I have heard about the Northeast Snowpocalypse. And I know the snow here is no joke.

But, BUT, overall, it was actually a fun experience. I survived Winter Storm Helena and I have the pictures to prove said victory.

So, let's be honest. When it really gets to snowing hard, it is a little like that scene in The Shining.

You know, this scene:

Living out my Kubrick fantasy. One snowflake at a time.

The Nick Furymobile was quickly buried in snow.

Did I mention how ridiculously large the Nick Furymobile is in Mass?
#mytruckiseatingBoston

As much I as enjoyed seeing proper snow, #MaddiethePug was NOT a fan of potty time in the cold, wet Snowman Droppings.

PLEASE do not make me go out in that, Mommy.

On the other hand, BabyBelle Pug loves the snow. She frolics in it and chases snowflakes.

#thecoldneverbotheredheranyway

Why could it not have done this on Christmas Day?

Hey, New England. Cooperate with me, here.

The next day, like a true Southerner, I headed out to take in the snowsperience. I know, I KNOW. Military Husband was like, "meh, it is effing cold."

However, it was a good time to me!

You know what is great about living on the beach in Massachusetts?

Still just as beautiful as ever after a snowstorm:

As I type this more snow is heading my way, so I am most certainly not "in the snow clear" so to speak. However, I made it through my very first Winter Storm!

Did you experience any of Winter Storm Helena? How did you enjoy the snow? If you live in warm climates, want to come build a snowman with me? Let me know in the comments below!

There is 100% pure snow everywhere, and I am,

  1. I moved to Cleveland from the South, rented an apartment and didn't pay extra for the covered garage. Big mistake. Woke up the next morning to 30 inches of lake effect snow and had to dig my car out as my boss that owned the big corporate jet would not be happy with his new Captain if I was late for my first flight (I'd done some part time flying for them before, and they hired me full time when the airline I was working for went Tango Uniform.)

    I got the garage.

Enjoy - it's super cold in Chicagoland but no snow at all.

    1. Yeah! That digging your car out thing is scary!!! It's funny, part of my truck got it bad and the other didn't (guarded by our leaning roof I guess). My husband said his car? Nearly buried! Lol!

    1. 12-13 inches I think. Not too bad! It didn't seem as bad where we were. It was really bad in some areas. Snow is a menancing thing of beauty lol.

  9. Love your perspective on living near the beach! These pictures are awesome. As a fellow southerner, the most snow I can remember getting at one time was five days before our wedding. Our city in north Alabama got 10" in five hours. Obviously our town was shut down for the entire week, so that was a BLAST considering how much there was to do before the wedding. Ha!

    1. Haha, I hated when we did get anything down South. It was normally ice for us...and that means, like you said, everything shuts down and lots of wrecks. I know Alabama had a rough go with Winter Storm Helena. I prefer this weather to tornados and hurricanes though. Those things are out of control and downright scary.

  10. The snow always looks so beautiful and I like to visit places that have it...but to live in it would be so hard! Especially with the pugs. Walks and potty breaks would be challenging.
    Bundle up!

    1. Haha, it is challenging! I've come to realize in my old age if I don't try this out I'll never experience anything new! The idea of New York City being 3 hours and 45 minutes away is magical to me. There are of course cons, but the pros really do make up for it.

  12. I definitely would have been outside and enjoying the snow too! It's so pretty! And I'm pretty sure that Dart would have been right there with Maddie and hating every minute of the snow storm! He hates the cold weather!

  17. I swear, I think Helena started all the way back here in my neck of the woods! I love snow, as long as I don't have to drive in it. It's been super cold but not very snowy here this winter :(. I'll come build a snowman with you!

    1. Lmao! But you've got to experience one summer in Louisiana!! It's only 115 plus on the daily plus humidity. Heat until you die!! Like Satan is playing marbles on your brain!!

  23. Love your pictures, hate the snow. So far (knock on wood) we've had a fairly mild winter in the Midwest. Usually we are up to our elbows in snow.

    1. Oh I hope it stays that way for you!! I know snow can get annoying. I'm a little disappointed we haven't gotten anymore lol. It's warm in Boston today!

  24. We were suppose to get snow. I was so very excited, snow at the beach? That must be gorgeous! Well, after they cancelled everything for days, we got a few flakes here and there. It wasn't even real snow, more like ice specks. So, that was very anti climatic. I love your pictures. That is exactly how I imagine snow on the beach. But does the snow accumulate on the sand? Is there a bunch of snow falling into the ocean? How does that even work :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lol! It does accumulate on the sand. But the tide comes in and it all goes bye bye. It's super cold by the water too. LikeTitanic ice crap! Lol lol
