5 Reasons I Love Being A Military Spouse

Today's post is all about Military Husband. You see, I love being his wife. I know, I KNOW, insert your pukes and barfs here, but we really do have an incredible marriage. Part of that marriage is understanding that his first priority must always be the military. And friends, I love being a military spouse. It brings our family many awesome advantages and blessings.

However, if I were being perfectly honest, I would love being married to Military Husband if he collected trash for a living, or if he was the person who had to toss out the wax strips after a Brazilian wax. As an aside, is there a name for that? Hazardous wax strip handling?

All I know is, hair is gross. I cannot even with hair.

Disclaimer: If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I tell it like it is and do not sugarcoat my feelings. If you are the type to get butt hurt, you might want to mosey along little cowgirl or cowboy. If you not, then hi, I love you, can we be besties?

It truly saddens me that I read a lot of negative posts about the military and life as a military spouse. Some women really take their advantages for granted. Further, I would be pretty annoyed if Military Husband wrote all over the Internet that he hated my career of choice. Military Husband really enjoys being in the military and he works hard for our family.

And I am not going to diss him on the Internet by complaining about his career.

You know you were singing this in your head, bugaboo.
#immasurvivor #notgonnagiveup

Anyhoo, I absolutely love being a military spouse. Here are 5 reasons why.

1) Military Husband Is Our Rock

No, not like The Rock.

Not the one who lays the smacketh down on candy asses.
#butthatwouldbecooltho

Military Husband is the rock of our family. He works hard and provides everything I could possibly want or need. Because of him, I  have the opportunity to take a "work sabbatical" and stay home. I enjoy my time with our pugs and being able to relax. And I never take for granted that he provides me this opportunity. We are also lucky Military Husband has a job and a stable income because he is in the military. I see so many people who have been laid off or are unemployed in this country. We are extremely fortunate.

2) The Opportunity To Travel

Thanks to Military Husband's career, I have the opportunity to travel. I have always lived in the same state my entire life. Now, we have the chance to move to a new big city. I am excited about the changes this will bring for our lives. If I had never met Military Husband, I probably would have remained in my same ratchet city for the rest of my life. We also have future plans to retire in Hawaii. I never would have that opportunity (nor would I have even visited Hawaii) if it were not for Military Husband.

3) Dental Insurance

Before I met Military Husband, it had been, oh say, a few years since I had a dentist visit. Now, I can have my teeth cleaned twice a year free because of military dental insurance. Not to mention, my teeth have been through heck and back this past year. I had a root canal, a crown and two fillings. Thanks to our dental insurance, it cost significantly less than what I would have paid on my own. I am extremely appreciative that Military Husband's job allows me to have beautiful, clean, healthy teeth.

Cause you all know I have to look good.

4) Great Coverage from USAA

Recently, I had a small accident in my vehicle. Folks, yours truly is blonde and you know, driving while blonde is hazardous to a car's life. Thankfully, our coverage through USAA is incredible. They provided me with a rental car and my vehicle was fixed and back to beautiful condition within 4 DAYS! I never had a car returned so quickly from a body shop.

Let's just say, I might have a few car wrecks under the old lifetime belt.

If it were not for the sacrifices Military Husband has made by serving in the military, I would probably be driving a donkey and slapping him with a banana to make a Ratchet Mall run for my favorite cookies.

5) Military Husband Makes Me Proud

I am proud to be Military Husband's wife. He has been through his fair share of combat deployments. I understand, perhaps better that some because one of my minors in my Master's program was military history, what it means when he mentions where he was deployed. I know that he dealt with some incredibly difficult missions all for our country, for you and me and for our freedom. His job is to protect our liberty and the United States Constitution. When one thinks about a soldier's military career, one should not be writing "I HATE the "insert branch here"" or "I HATE being a military spouse" because what these men do is a noble and beautiful sacrifice. It is one I am entirely too selfish to make. I have so much respect for Military Husband and others in the military.

God bless each of them who currently serve and those who have fallen so that I can continue to live each day in peace.

Yes, YES, I understand that being a military spouse has its difficult moments and there is nothing wrong with a little vent from time to time. However, I love being a military spouse and I would not have it any other way.

  3. I know I agree - with a hubby who served 20 years in the Navy I only wish I had been lucky enough to be there with him during that time. Thank you so much for your husbands and yours service (you are the one that his rock too) - all military and there families deserves so much more than the government and sadly often the public give them

    1. Thank you to your husband for his service and sacrifice!
And thank you. I don't think I deserve anything at all. But I totally agree that military deserves much more! Better pay, for one. People don't realize that when the government makes budget cuts in the military, it really hurts!
And how come Jay Z makes 50 billion a year and our military makes peanuts? Lol.

  4. Wonderful post. I had reservations when the granddaughter talked about joining the Military. Now she is there and it is obvious she is where she is supposed to be and we could not be more proud and thankful for all our service people and those the family members that support them

  5. I love USAA! I've been a member since I was 12 (Army Brat!) and I can't imagine another bank. I also hate when women or men bash being a military wife. I mean, it's your husbands job! It's paying the bills, sure there are bad parts but what job is perfect? Also, don't talk bad about your spouse online, that's just rude.

    1. A-freaking-men! It is paying the bills so you can sit on your butt and complain! All the complaining really drives me batty. Like you said, what job is perfect? And having a stable job is a lot better than being unemployed or looking around for a job in an unstable economy.
Thank YOU for your parents service, your service and your husband's service! :)

  11. I met a lady that was a military wife with her husband being set to Germany. She lived there with him, and she hated it so much that she got a divorce. Talk about not being able to make a sacrifice for your spouse. She said it was because nobody was speaking English and there are no Waffle houses in Germany, poor woman...

He is away for training at the moment and I know she misses him. She also loves the life they have together. ♥ I'm so happy that you are blessed with a marvelous military husband!

I appreciate my man for protecting the two of us. Even if it's at home. He's always wanted to join the forces, but can't due to legal reasons...

  16. Thank your husband for me - over here at my house, we appreciate his service and what he does for our country. And thanks to you too - because the spouse also has to make sacrifices. We are forever grateful to both of you. I'm a little envious of the good dental coverage. We have our own business, and dental insurance is too expensive, so we don't have any. My mouth is a mess too - and I'm finally starting my Invisalign next week. Excited to hear more about your move!

    1. Trust me, I know all about not having insurance. I didn't have any health or dental my entire life. I learned how to treat myself at home when I got sick. And honestly, I don't go to the doctor at all now. I just take over the counter stuff. The dentist is another story. That kind of pain is unbearable!
      Thank you love!!

  17. Outstanding! I am also a proud Army wife (now retired, but still...) and an Army brat. My husband (and dad, and brother, and brother in law, and nieces, and nephew, and ... yeah, you get the idea) could not have chosen a more honorable profession. From the moment I was born - between moves, just to make things interesting for my mother - I have lived all over the States and in Europe and Asia. It all helped me grow as a person, helped me know how to interact with other people, and how to help other people.

  20. I was a government employee for 20 years...the benefits were the best part of all of it. Of course, military members are probably paid a little better than state employees? I don't know...whatever they're paid, it isn't enough for all they do. I believe he also gets to retire with a pension at a fairly young age, which will be awesome.

  24. Yes to all of this! One thing we really love is getting the chance to travel. And I sure do love my dental because after I graduated from college in 2011, I went without any insurance for a few years. This girl loves her sweets, that's all I can say. And that's exciting about Hawai'i, I know you guys will make the most of it!

  25. Thank you for posting this. Although I am not a military wife I am a military daughter and it works my nerves when people bash the military on social media. I would never be able to do what those men and woman do for us.

  26. I LOVE what you said about women complaining about their husbands' chosen careers. Maybe the military life (or trash collector's wife life or doctor's wife life or whatever) isn't for you and that's okay. But if you choose to marry that man, you choose to support him and that means sucking it up and finding ways to be happy about it.

    1. Omgosh right? People nowadays really need to put on their big girl panties and deal with it. It really bothers me (and embarrasses me) that some military wives think they are entitled or something. It also pisses me off when they belittle another non-military spouses and say "omg omg you don't have any idea what it is like being a military wife!!"....whatever. We ALL have shit we go through. Not any one if us is special. Life is what you make of it. I'm just blessed we are all healthy and happy!
