FUNBO (Funny & Non-Boring) Product Review: Young Living Essential Oils

Disclaimer: I was sent products from Young Living Essential Oils for testing purposes. At the end of the trial, I returned all the products to the distributor. I was not compensated in any way, nor was I given a free product for this review. Basically, I got nada for doing this and there is no way I would not be completely honest with you all about my thoughts on the product. However, will pimp out my soul for never-ending bottles of wine, cheese trays and Marvel first run screenings. #justsaying #Marvelcallme

My good blogging friend Laura at Simply Me, The Way I See It asked me if I would review Young Living Essential Oils. Honestly, I had decided to quit doing "sponsored posts" all together. Why? Because I know, I KNOW, sponsored reviews suck ass are annoying. No one wants to read that nonsense. If we did, then we would not fast forward through all the constipation and herpes ads on television like we were running from a naked squirrel on fire.

Now would we?

For the purposes of this review, I received a diffuser, premium starter kit, coconut oil and three essential holiday oils for testing purposes from Young Living Essential Oils.

In case you were wondering, essential oils are liquids and compounds that are distilled and pressed from plants. Examples of essential oils include peppermint, orange, frankincense, lemon and lavender. You can use essential oils for aromatherapy, in drinks for health purposes, on your skin (diluted with a carrier oil like coconut or olive) and make homemade bath and beauty products.

Here is the diffuser I tested:

Does the diffuser remind anyone else of an alien pod? Am I the only person who thinks Scensty and Young Living are secretly run by alien communities and are masking their pods with good smelling scents?

One of these days, the pods are going to hatch and we are going to end up like this:

But truly, I digress.

It is fairly simple to use the essential oil diffuser. You add water to the line designated inside and drop in a few drops of essential oils. When you want to change the oils, you clean the inside with a little rubbing alcohol.

The literature included encourages you to use clean, purified water. Since I am bougie, I prefer Fiji. #MaddiethePug also enjoys Fiji Water.

She is pretty much a total pug snob.

#notsorryaboutit
(Legit, if #MaddiethePug was a real little girl, she totally would act like
Hallie Parker in The Parent Trap.)

In order to test out the diffuser, I tried several combinations of essential oils.

One of the diffuser combinations I tried was lavender, lemon and purification. Now friends, I am a lover of lavender. Lavender is a natural sleep aid. And your girl Mili Wifey CANNOT fall asleep.

For real though, I am like that little girl in The Ring.

Did that movie piss you off or what?
If some bitch climbs out of our 60" tv and messes it up, she is going to think demonic hellbitch. #hellhathnofury #likeawomanwithouthertv #1stworldproblems

Anyhoo, I own all the aromatherapy lavender products that Bath and Body Works sells, I put lavender wax melts in my Scentsy and I bathe with lavender soap.

Lavender totally makes me sleep. Oh, and so does the bottle of wine and/or vat of vodka.

Did I mention this one knocked Military Husband completely out for the night? It is totally "Husband Chloroform." He will take a trip to Baa Baa Night Night Sheep Land once he is on the lavender.

But, you know, lavender scents will not land you in prison. #dontchloroformanyone #LearneditOnTheLifetimeNetwork

The other combination I diffused was orange, cinnamon and clove.

This literally smelled like Christmas.

Military Husband totally loved this smell. After I diffused this group of oils, Military Husband did NOT want to return the diffuser. Our home smelled amazing. And the best part about the diffuser is  once you fill it with water and oils, it works without any assistance from you. It even turns itself off when the water is gone.

Seriously. It is totally like:

You can also use the essential oils you receive in your premium starter kit to make homemade body butter. This would be a rad gift for friends during the holidays.

Thanks to Laura and her friend, Janetta for giving me this fun opportunity to test Young Living Essential Oils. I really enjoyed the diffuser and, as Military Husband said, we were sad to see our little pod friend leave.

Have you ever tried essential oils? Have you ever used a diffuser or tried aromatherapy? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I have tried a few oils, but never diffused them. I have some lavender around here somewhere. Does it also make the husband not snore while he's in baa baa night night sheep land?

The diffuser really is awesome. They don't pay me to say this-I seriously plan to buy one. I like it more than Scentsy. No kidding, it fills up your whole house having a diffuser in one room.

  7. Best review post ever!! I don't use them. Well, I got some room spray that is orange essence and I love it. And I love candles that make my house smell amazing so I would probably love them for the smell. And if it helped me sleep and relax total bonus!! I have some Badger Balm that is lavender that you rub on your forehead before bed to help with sleep!!

    1. I love candles too but I feel like such a tool when I blow $22 on one damn candle and it lasts me like a week. I swear Bath and Body Works formula has changed! Those candles aren't like they used to be!!

  8. Well, I have to say, normally I HATE these types of posts and I won't read them, but you manage to make even an advertisement entertaining! I have a college friend who is all into this. But she's chased every promo opportunity she could since college. First it was Pampered Chef, then candles, then I lost touch with her for a while and now instead of inviting all her friends to parties, she posts about Essential Oils online. She has one of those mommy blogs but she also promotes the stuff on social media. I'm surprised she's stuck with oils for so long...she usually hops from one thing to another. I would think she'd be doing Jamberry or Younique by now...everyone else seems to be!

    1. Yeah, ads suck ass. I'm not knocking anyone's hustle. And I have no problem with anyone who does reviews from time to time. But some people are ridiculous with it. They can weave an ad into ANYTHING. "Look at me, I'm on the beach today! Speaking of the beach, have you tried the new "Sand in Your Ass" moisturizing cream? It's awesome and only $199! I'm obsessed."
      Just no.

    3. I've been dying to blog about how annoying some people's sponsorships are. But I don't want to piss off the world before Christmas.
      But BUT I'm dying too!!

  9. I have tried a few of the DoTerra essential oils. One in particular - Serenity blend - I had a sample and rubbed it on my feet before going to bed when the hubby was gone for 4 days (i do not sleep well if he is gone) I and the pugs all slept better. But the stuff is expensive.

  13. We've been using Young Living stuff for years and really love it. Our diffuser is a bit less alien looking, but works really well. Great for freshening up a room, etc. Peppermint and Lavender are our absolute favorites.

  14. I'm always curious about these things but I'm really sensitive to smells so I'm afraid it'll give me headaches

    1. I was worried about the same thing! But it didn't annoy me. Sometimes a Scentsy smell makes me gag. But this was kind of light in the air if that makes sense.
