As you have been told, oh say, 5,432,000 times, September 9th was my birthday. And now, I am going to brag about my birthday. AGAIN.
I know, I KNOW. Last time, I SWEAR.
On my actual birthday, Military Husband arrived home early and surprised me with this:
And a box of white chocolate macadamia nut cookies from the Nestle Tollhouse Cafe', which has become my go-to cookie place ever since our last little getaway. The cookies and cake were amazeballs and I highly recommend Nestle Tollhouse Cafe' over the Great American Cookie Company. He also gave me a new handbag, which has become a tradition since we first started dating - new handbag for every birthday.
My mom and dad gave me a gift on Thursday:
A Swarovski crystal pug necklace. I totally fell in love and wore it every single day of my birthday trip. Does it not look JUST like #MaddiethePug?
On Friday, September 11, Military Husband and I, plus our pugs, headed to our destination. Initially, we had a tiny snafu with our trip plans as we were supposed to stay at a golf resort. When I called to confirm our reservations, they quickly let me know our pugs were not allowed at the hotel. Even though the hotel's website CLEARLY states otherwise. Needless to say, I was not happy.
It was pretty much like this:
I go NOWHERE without my pugs. #pugmommy4life
But, Military Husband called the hotel, Le Meridien, where we stayed during our last trip and got us a suite and extra goodies for my birthday. I was totally stoked like R Kelly in a bar full of Remy Martin.
Or something like that.
Once we arrived at the hotel, we checked into our Premier King Suite and it was HUGE. The pugs absolutely adored our room. We chose an inner view room of the hotel because it is still rather warm outside and large hotel windows = heat. Here was the view from our room:
I really love the lighting and ambience in the hotel at night. Cozy and romantic. In the lobby, there are little tables and chairs set up with chess tables so you can play, and there are iMacs and printers available for your use. They also provide complimentary copies of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
Here is a view of our living room in the suite; there was also a small area in the left hand corner with another chair, table and full length mirror. The door you can see entered into the bedroom.
Here is a view of the sitting area, which was located in the back of the living room.
There was a refrigerator and another table in front of the sitting area (not pictured) where I stored the pugs food and treats. Le Meridien also provides guests with complimentary bottled water in each room.
Here is our bedroom:
The bedroom had an additional door leading to our bathroom. The bathroom was quite spacious and had a large dressing counter. I did not take a picture of it because Military Husband was like:
Every single time I stopped to take a picture on our trip for the blog. Le Sigh.
After we settled in, Military Husband and I headed downstairs to the bar for a drink and to order the pugs some of the hotel chicken fingers, #MaddiethePug's FAVORITE food. We absolutely love this hotel bar; all of the bartenders are local folks, and super friendly and conversational.
While we enjoyed our drinks, Military Husband realized it was September 11, and he mentioned to me how we almost did not meet (from danger I would rather not know about during his deployments in combat zones). I suppose the bartender overheard because to our surprise, we received this check:
Military Husband was so honored and moved.
He is NOT the type to go around asking for "free" anything.
We left a nice tip.
Later on that evening, a waiter arrived at our suite with this for my birthday:
I was so surprised! Cheesecake is one of my favorite cheat desserts. And this was absolutely delectable. The food at Le Meridien is one of the highlights. I enjoyed my cheesecake so much I insisted we eat at the hotel restaurant Saturday night, September 12. On Saturday, after a rather leisurely day of resting and enjoying the city, we ended up enjoying a fantastic meal at the hotel. Afterwards, we headed back to our suite and rented Love & Mercy.
Friends, this movie was phenomenal. I will be writing a review in the near future, but until then, please watch this movie and report back after you witnessed the magic.
On Sunday, September 13, Military Husband and I headed down to the hotel's breakfast buffet with one thing on our minds - PANCAKES. As we headed towards the station to place our order, we saw this:
A Ratchet, with her Ratchet child and Ratchet mother. Now, you all know I love me a good #ratchet, but this one was just all kinds of #no. We shall call her "Ratchetella." Ratchetella was popping off at the staff, demanding all kinds of food and standing in the way of ALL the other patrons. Military Husband managed to navigate the scene and ordered me a plate of three pancakes. When the pancakes were finished, the cook handed the plate towards Military Husband and Ratchetella snatched them away, said "THANK YOU" and looked at Military Husband all:
Needless to say, Military Husband was livid.
Military Husband: May I have three more pancakes because someone just stole my wife's.
Ratchet's Mother: She did not steal them; those were handed to her.
This made Military Husband even more infuriated. But, we decided to get our food, take it back to the room and keep it classy.
Let's press on. We had another lazy day, enjoyed a quick lunch at an Italian restaurant and played with our pugs. For dinner, we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant again because it was just so damn amazing.
Here is the hotel restaurant menu:
During our stay, Military Husband tried the Wings (he said they are the best wings he has ever eaten) and the Classic Burger with fries (he LOVES the hotel fries). I tried the Classic Caesar Salad (which has a house made dressing to DIE for, along with real Asiago cheese), Thai Prawns (the pineapple slaw makes them BOMB), Penne Pasta with Prawns and the Classic Burger with fries. All of it was delicious, and the bartenders make fantastic martinis (of which I drank a few). The hotel restaurant also has the SWEETEST waitress named Heather. She took care of us at all our meals.
I also enjoyed a few glasses of wine and another piece of cheesecake back in our suite.
I had quite a few of these, too. #wheninRome #AAisforquitters
It was just SO good. #myhipsdontlie
Yep, all we did was eat and drink. BUT, you have to understand with Military Husband's schedule, we never have time for dinners or drinking.
On Monday, September 14, we were supposed to leave, BUT Military Husband went downstairs and booked the room for another day. I was super excited! We ended up getting dressed and going out for lunch. At lunch, I had a really yummy Peach Bellini.
At this point with me and my camera, Military Husband was just like:
So, that was my last picture! It was pretty much the perfect birthday. This post is mainly to thank Military Husband because, once again, he really spoiled me on my birthday and I do not think I tell him enough how much I appreciate him. My one wish is that all my single friends find someone who loves them as much as Military Husband loves me.
Remember this - do not wait around on Prince Charming. His lazy ass is sitting around the castle waiting on you to chase him. Love yourself, work hard, be strong and stay amazing and your knight will come around when you least expect it to fight for your heart.
Many, many hugs (and pug hugs) to you all,
