Top 5 Reasons Why I Blog

I was perusing other blogs today and I ran across a popular post - "Why I Blog" and I thought "ooooh interesting."

Actually, what I really was doing was blog-stalking, which is sort of like Facebook stalking, something I like to do too (oh c'mon, you have done this before, admit it!). I did not follow any of these folks blogs, but I read through a few posts because they were all kitschy and said things like:

"I blog because it is like having a Venti non-fat skinny coconut water pumpkin spice with acai latte with good friends. #lovemyStarbs"

"I blog to make the world a better place."

"I blog to meet other perfect people, like me."

"I blog because I had THE CALLING. Like, everyone, and I do mean everyone, was begging to me to write a blog.  So I did."

These kinds of people have professional photographs of their family on their blog.  Ones starring them posed on a kayak in a lake, with blue birds landing on their hands like they are posing for the cover of the next Disney movie. Or ones with the husband and wife posing like some kind of modern day pieta with the sun bursting open creating a heaven like halo around them (FYI: Brangelina, like, totally invented this pose). OR ones with their children sporting perfectly coifed hair, with the girls wearing huge monogram bows and the boys in little vests and Sperrys.

Perfect little children.

That will never be me. My child will be like this:

Or this:

And if it the child is a boy, most likely this:

I am ok with this, oddly enough.

Anyhoo, the perfect people do not like me or the blog. Why, just one look at a post with cursing, craziness, ratchetosity and Tales from the Hoodrats, not to mention those pictures I took with my iPhone that are hot mess express and they are all:

I am an acquired taste.

Let's get back to the subject at hand. I thought I would list MY top 5 reasons why I blog.  These reasons are raw and honest, and #shhhhh, probably a few them are reasons why the perfect people blog, too.

Top 5 Reasons Why I Blog

1) My massive ego: I have mentioned before I have a rather malignant narcissitic personality disorder.  I like me, and I rather enjoy talking about myself.  Hey, I am an awesome person and demand a lot of attention.

Oh. And my husband is growing tired of petting my massive ego.  So come on, feed the kitty.

2) Eh, Boredom: I am currently on what I call a "work sabbatical," which is a fancy way of saying I sleep until noon, eventually drag myself to my Keurig, lounge around the couch watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother until 4pm, when I finally drag myself up and start cooking dinner for my husband.  Ultimately, I return to my reclined position and watch reruns of Sabrina the Teenage Witch all night.

It is super rewarding.

But sure, sometimes I get bored, so I was like, why not blog?

Even if no one reads it, I will. Revert back to 1).

3) Free Therapy: I have, you could say, a few issues.

Therapy is really expensive. And I learned all about therapy and rehab by watching endless episodes of A&E's Intervention (I also learned how to self-diagnose from the show). If I were to ever get therapy, I would ONLY want to go to Promises Malibu, where the therapy involves yoga, fitness, trips to the beach and painting. Promises saved Britney after the shaved head debacle, helped Robert Downey Jr. become an Avenger and it made Lindsey Lohan be....

Still yucky.

Seriously, therapy is pricey.  So, this blog is my free therapy.  Thank you.

4) Stage Mother Issues: Should come as no surprise I am trying to break #MaddiethePug into puggy modeling.  She totally should be the next cover model for ANY dog food ad.  She is ready to walk the red carpet, folks.

Hollywood will be my bitch.

5) Laughing at Myself (and at you).  My posts make me laugh. Some of your posts make me laugh at you, or with you.

You choose.

I love to laugh and trust me, even though I am dripping with sarcasm throughout this post, if something I write does not make me laugh out loud more than twice, I do not post. Making people laugh sort of gives meaning to my life.

I should have been in comedy. Instead, I became an attorney.

Those are the reasons why I blog.  In all seriousness, I do want you to know that I appreciate each and every one of you, plus all the fabulous comments you leave make my day. I try to return the love with my support for your blog. I might even be the first person commenting on your blog because I have no life.

Pity me? #pouts #sadface #charliebrown

  1. Blogging is indeed therapeutic. I used to write on a personal blog and it was an outlet for me to share about bits of my life as a special needs mom. But now I do it because it's fun - it's given me a lot of opportunities and I've met some really awesome people!

  5. I never wanted to write anything for public consumption. Just never felt like anyone would want to hear what I had to say. When I started my business, I kept hearing how blogging was a great way to promote. I can write about my stuff. But the key is writing that isn't just self-promotional. I started writing from the viewpoint of my Aussies because I LOVE my dogs. Turns out it is fun. The more I write, and take the photos, the more I like it. It's fun to interact with other bloggers too.

    1. I love your blog! And I love everyone who writes from the viewpoint of their dogs! I think it is so stinking cute. But I am a huge animal lover....if I could bring home every puppy, I totally would. I was thinking last night, I wish I could meet all the animals on the blogs I read! They all seem so sweet! I think I would enjoy it more than Maddie would, lol.

  6. I think everyone has different reasons. I wasn't sure of my main reason for a long time. It came to me when I thought about stopping. Then I started looking back at old blog posts and was so thankful I have kept it going for so long (I've had the Ao4 Digest going since 2006). I read some of the posts showing the original Army of Four, all of whom sadly have left us (to cancer, to kidney disease, to basically "old age"...). I couldn't go back and look for a long time after we lost them; it hurt too much. But now, when I see their photos and read "their" voices - I really did capture their personalities and am so thankful I won't lose that. That I won't lose those day-to-day little things that made them who they were. I don't know, maybe that's a lot deeper of an answer than what you were looking for, but that's why I keep it going. :)

    1. I think that is truly awesome! And I absolutely love your blog. Cammie and Mags are like the two prettiest huskies I've ever seen....matter of fact, I was lying in bed showing them to my husband like "honey look how beautiful these dogs are!"

I love all my doggy blogs. You guys are awesome and some of the most supportive people I have run across while blogging!

  7. The community is indeed the top reason to blog...it's all about meeting other people! I blog for clients all day, every day, so I use my blog as a fun place where I can be creative! (Which is why I always use memes and gifs like you--I spend all day writing long paragraphs of text and blogging would feel too much like work otherwise.)

    1. Exactly. I used to write all the time in the legal business. It's actually kind of nice to write and not have to worry about the legal jargon and making sure everything is perfect and having five people read it over and over. And your annoying client's new girlfriend saying: "you forgot the comma in this paragraph here" and you want to reach over the table and strangle her.
You have an awesome blog as well!

And I'm with your mom - it's a great escape from this world!

  9. Wells, I blog because I have no choice. Yuppers, Ma takes my pic, and catches me doin' thingies MAYBE I shouldn't be doin' (we are still debating the whole 'eating my zucchini plant'....). Now, I KNOW I'm FABulous and everythings, so does Ma, so she puts my pic up in the hope that one day Hollywood Paws will come a knockin'! (though, I don't thinks a gooey slobbering, stinky, noisy, hyperbutt of an Airedale is hight on their list...though...I don't know why NOT! )
Anyhu, If you know of any free and cheap therapy, let Ma know...I thinks she needs it! ☺
Til then, margaritas are at four....

  12. I blog so Pemberley will have something to read when she gets older. My own mom did a pretty terrible job leaving me any legacies, so I want to do better for my kid.

Also, I like using the blog as an excuse to give said baby to my husband. "No, it's YOUR turn to watch her. I have to BLOG."

Love reading yours. Love your narcissistic personality disorder, your hilarious witticisms, and your Lifetime Movie recaps make me cry happy tears :) xoxo

I totally have a sugar addiction. If you recall, I had the whole root canal drama, so I paid for the sugar addiction, lol. Hasn't kept me away from my beloved cookies, though. And my gum. And my white chocolate candies.
Thank you so much for those kind words!! I'm sending you a big hug!! xxoo

  23. The free therapy is a good one ;-) My life really has gone to the dogs every since our pups Missy & Buzz came into our lives at 8 weeks of age, and I've had nothing but raising puppies, potty training, general training, socializing, dog walking, poop scooping etc on my mind..then I discovered the wonderful world of professional pet care, and now own my very own pet sitting business. If I could I'd talk dogs all day long :-))

  24. Hahahaha....love it. I also stalk the perfect people blogs, while silently wondering wth because no one is that perfect. I started blogging because my boys are almost grown up and ready to leave home, which was leading to a bit of a breakdown on my part. I need something else to focus on so I don't drive my husband crazy!

    1. Aww, my mom went through the SAME thing when I left for law school. I lived at home and went to colleges nearby, and then I had to move 6.5 hours away to attend law school. She said she would go in my room and cry everyday; so I came home and she had turned it into an office, lol. I know you will miss them. And believe you me, they will DEFINITELY miss you!

And I liked the first season of OITNB but I couldn't get into the second.
My husband just got me into Arrested Development tho (I'm so late to the party) and I love it!!! Totally my kind of humor-sarcastic and silly!

    2. I assume you're still in the early seasons of HIMYM? I don't want to spoil anything.
I love all 3 seasons of OITNB.
Glad you like AD too. You need to see Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Similar humor!

    3. Oh no girl I've seen all 9 seasons over and over!! And I loved the mother btw. She was perfection. Me and Ted mosby are a lot alike.
Arrested development is the best!! I love Lucille. She kills me!!

    4. I was just so disappointed by the series finale. It felt anti-climactic to me, as well.
      I loved the mother too.
Lily and I are alike. My husband reminds me of Marshall, so that works too. :)
I tried watching the AD reboot on Netflix a few years ago and I just couldn't get into it. I only liked the Tobias episode and then gave up halfway through. Lucille is great though.
